We went to the Kapolei Carnival over the weekend and had a fantastic time.
There were a few things that surprised me about this carnival. One of them was that we didn't get any good caption contest photos. The shot I think is best suited is the one at left, when our oldest daughter rode the merry-go-round for a second time. [more]

Ynaku pretty much ran away with the votes this week. There was one point yesterday when he and Jermel were tied but Ynaku's caption quickly regained the lead in the poll and never let go.
Congratulations, Ynaku! And congratulations also to Jermel and jdk, who rounded out the Top 3. [more]

We got a lot of variations on cuteness and adorability for this week's caption contest photo, and it made me very happy to read the entries. We also saw a lot of clever references to previous blog posts, which is something I tend to fall for.
Please cast your vote for your favorite before tomorrow Thursday at 9 p.m., when the poll closes. [more]

Hope everyone had a fun and safe Halloween! We sure did. We had a family party at our house and we had a fantastic day.
For the caption contest this week, I thought we'd use a picture that Zee took Thursday, when she was getting the costumes ready for our girls. [more]

It was interesting to watch the poll evolve the past couple of days. snow's and kikaida's captions took turns holding the lead and were tied for a long time before one more vote for snow's entry finally came in and broke the tie, handing snow the win.
Congratulations, snow! [more]

Lots of great captions again, as usual! Zee and I went back and forth and back again before finally deciding on three entries for the poll.
There were many different approaches you could take with this photo and with three people in the shot, there were also opportunities for dialog. [more]

I had two beers at two different occasions this weekend. If you know me, you know that's considered partying hard by my standards nowadays.
My drinking came to a screeching halt after we had kids. I didn't plan it that way. It just happened. There was one thought I just couldn't shake: "What if something happens to them and I can't take care of them because I've been drinking?"
Maybe that reasoning is beginning to fade. [more]

Brian's record-long winning streak of three weeks in a row was broken this week by kikaida, whose Almond Joy caption took an early lead and never looked back.
Congratulations, kikaida! [more]

Reading through the captions this week kind of made me hungry because of the references to nuts, chocolate, blueberry and other flavors.
Here they are, the entries Zee and I finally agreed on for the poll. Please vote for your favorite before tomorrow Thursday at 9 p.m. [more]

During a trip to Longs, our daughters were looking at what appeared to be kukui nut and shell lei. I'm not sure exactly what they found so interesting about these lei, but they spent about a minute looking them over, talking and giggling.
What were they talking about? Post your suggestion as a caption for this week's contest. [more]
