 I recently decided to tend to the chaos that was our refrigerator door, the face of our fridge. I'd say for almost a year, our poor door was a mish-mash of photos, magnets, lists and artwork. It seemed like every day, our two little ones would (proudly) add a new drawing to display on the refrigerator. It's not that I don't like my girls' creations, but a dozen drawings haphazardly displayed on one relatively small surface isn't the best way to highlight art. [more]

 Andreas and I don't have a fancy "mail station." Our votive candle holder display, which is the centerpiece of our dining table, also serves as our makeshift mail station. It's pretty random, but it works for us. If mail should pile up, we'd notice the eyesore right away and deal with it.

 I think the biggest reason I hang on to my "clutter" is emotional attachment. The extra wedding favors. The stacks of old newspapers with all my articles. The toys my girls don't play with anymore. I know some things really aren't worth keeping if they're just taking up space in my home — my sanctuary — and stressing me out. I definitely need to work on this.

 "I'll go through that box of junk after dinner" turns into "I'll go through that box of junk this weekend" turns into "I'll go through that box of junk next month." Next thing you know, fours years have passed and that box of junk from when you first moved into your new place is still unopened and still full of junk. (True story.)

 I'm a big believer of that old saying — which I think came from Benjamin Franklin — "A place for everything, everything in its place."
The problem I sometimes have, though, is not being able to find a "home" for certain things, like board games, travel souvenirs or keepsakes from my old job. [more]
