When visiting Gothenburg's rainforest, bring patience

Our daughters were mesmerized by the aquarium area and shouted out everything they saw.

The city of Gothenburg doesn't have a zoo. It has something better: a science metropolis that combines a zoo with an aquarium, a space center and a rainforest. Yes, a rainforest.

This impressive, seven-story attraction is called Universeum and is located in the middle of the city. [more]

Kids and dogs run free in 'The Valley'

Our oldest daughter loves running after my parents' German shepherd, Fanny, during the morning walks.

My parents care for their lovable German shepherd like a family member. For the morning walks, they take her to an area they refer to as "The Valley."

We brings our kids along for these walks every day and they absolutely love it. For canines and kids alike, The Valley is an ideal place to run free. [more]

Caption winner: A powerful app called Dora

I doubt that a whole lot of folks were holding their breath but in case you were, I apologize for not announcing this week's caption contest winner yesterday as advertised.

We got lots of good ones and we went back and forth before crowning the champion. As we do quite often, we decided on the caption suggestion that we thought really matched the facial expression of our daughter in the photo. [more]

Our Swedish home away from home

A few days into our Sweden trip and we're finally starting to settle in and manage the jet lag. We haven't really ventured out yet, which is fine by me because I love just hanging out at our home away from home, Andreas' parents' house in Gothenburg. Caption contest: A powerful distraction called iPhone

Our daughters handled the trip to Sweden on the other side of the world remarkably well. There were no raging crying fits and no breakdowns, either from kids or parents.

We got some help, though. For the 24-hour journey, we brought the most powerful distractions we could think of. [more]

When the crying is not from them, it's not that bad

Either our daughters are exceptionally well-behaved or Zee and I are exceptionally lucky.

We're halfway to Sweden now, waiting for the plane to take off from Minneapolis to Amsterdam, and so far there have only been a couple of minutes of light crying. [more]
