 The other day when we visited Andreas' brother and his family, we took advantage of the fine weather — sunshiney but very cool — and went to a nearby playground. The girls got to spend quality time with their cousin, a sweet blonde-haired and blue-eyed preschooler, and together they whiled away the morning in their own little world. [more]

 On Sunday, we rode a train from Gothenburg to a town called Vänersborg to visit the girls' great-grandmother and to celebrate her 94th birthday. Vänersborg, an hour north of Gothenburg, is the town where Andreas grew up. [more]

 Andreas' parents hosted a birthday party today for our youngest daughter, who (unfortunately) had to celebrate her actual 3rd birthday a few days ago in three different airplanes because we spent that entire day travelling from Hawaii to Sweden. [more]

 Summering in Sweden has become an annual tradition for our family. For the past four years, we've spent a couple weeks with Andreas' parents in Gothenburg. It's always a wonderful experience, an opportunity for our two girls to reconnect with their Swedish family and heritage, and a chance for me to satisfy my wanderlust. [more]

 On this day in 1776, the Declaration of Independence was approved by the Continental Congress, setting the 13 colonies on the road to freedom as a sovereign nation. As always, this most American of holidays will be marked by parades, fireworks and backyard barbecues across the country.
