Summer in Sweden: Return to IKEA

First stop: Food. Andreas had Swedish meatballs and prinsesstårta, or princess cake (top), and I had fläskfilé, or pork filet, and a slice of chocolate pie.

A visit to Gothenburg would not be complete without a stop at IKEA — founded in Sweden in 1943. [more]

Caption voting: 'On' switch, Sweden dreams or royal oath?

The caption suggestions this week were written for this photo.

I know I say this every Wednesday but I just have to say it again today: It was very hard for Zee and me to decide on the three captions that move on to the poll this week.

Please vote for your favorite caption before tomorrow Thursday at 9 p.m. [more]

Caption contest: Exploring the globe

The caption suggestions this week were written for this photo.

This past weekend, our 3-year-old daughter showed a lot of interest in our globe, which I'll bring out on occasion in an effort to seize a teaching moment.

The sudden globe enthusiasm started on Saturday, when our daughter and I were singing a Swedish children's song together and it must have reminded her of Farmor, her Swedish grandmother. [more]
